Qld: Missing people found safe on Torres Strait island
Three adults and eight children have been found safe and well .. after they were reported
missing in the Torres Strait .. off far north Queensland's Cape York Peninsula.
Six dinghies left Mabuiag Island bound for Yam Island about 4pm (AEST) yesterday ..
but by 6.30pm (AEST) only four of the vessels had arrived.
Two adults and four children were on one of the dinghies .. and one adult and four
teenagers were on the other.
The Coastwatch helicopter began a search at first light this morning .. and at about
seven o'clock found all the missing people on uninhabited Gabba Island.
All are safe and well and will be picked up by a vessel from Yam Island.
One of the dinghies had run low on fuel and could not make it to their destination
so the occupants of the second dinghy stayed on the island with them.
