Fed: News Ltd didn't breach Trade Practices Act over Souths
The Rabbitohs say the sad and sorry Super League saga has ended, with the High Courtfinding South Sydney's exclusion from the National Rugby League competition in 2000 didn'tbreach the Trades Practices Act.
News Ltd and the NRL have welcomed the ruling in the case, which doesn't affect Souths'position in the competition.
In a majority decision delivered in Adelaide, the High Court has allowed a News Ltdappeal against an earlier Federal Court judgment that the company breached the Act byexcluding Souths after the merger of the NRL and Super League three years ago.
Souths rejoined the league last year.
Rabbitohs chairman NICK PAPPAS says the club is disappointed at today's decision, buthe says it signals an end to the protracted Super League saga.
News Ltd chief executive JOHN HARTIGAN says the company is satisfied the High Courtruling has clarified important legal issues.
