NSW: Union pleased with response to no fare ferry campaign
Union organisers say the public response to a fare-free day on Sydney ferries has been positive.
The action by the Maritime Union of Australia is expected to cost the New South Wales
government $500,000, as members refuse to accept fares on all Sydney ferries until midnight.
It's part of a state-wide campaign by unions protesting against proposed reforms of
workers' compensation legislation.
Maritime Union state secretary ROBERT COOMBS says union members got a positive response
from the travelling public in this morning's peak hour.
He says they're surprised at the public's awareness of the workers' compensation issue.
